THIS WEEK'S INTERIOR / EXTERIOR PAINTING TIP: |
|
This week's tip: Mold and mildew must be removed completely before applying paint to any surface. Make sure you pressure wash the entire exterior and allow to dry for at least 24 hours (longer in humid conditions) before applying any paint or primer. You should also use a cleaning agent during the pressure wash (special chemicals to kill mildew growing in the wood/siding). Your local paint retailer can help you select the proper cleaner for your region. Cutting in Zebra Custom Paint Tip: "Cutting in" is the term used to describe matching wall paint with corner/edge paint. Rollers cannot reach into wall corners or ceiling-to-wall corners so a brush must be used. Blending the brushed-on paint in the corners with the rolled paint of the walls is referred to as 'cutting in'. Paint the corners first using a brush, then use a small (3") roller to 'pull' the paint out of the corners. It is important to never let any roller, regardless of size or nap, stop on the surface being painted. Always gently lift the roller as you continue to roll it in the direction you are painting. Use a three inch brush and a three inch roller to cut in the entire room, then roll all walls at once, starting at the same point where you began cutting in. |
